Serving the city’s homeless people since 1992
‘For the last 28 years, Christ Church has run a Night Shelter for homeless people each winter, accommodating up to 25 people per night. Because of this year’s Covid restrictions, we are currently unable to offer overnight accommodation for guests. Lancaster City Council (01524 582257, or out of hours: 01524 67099) are the first point of contact for anyone who is homeless and requires accommodation.
From Monday 2nd November, Christ Church will host an Evening Drop-In, every evening from 8.30-9.30pm in the Church Hall. Led by our co-ordinators and volunteers, we provide a warm welcome, hot drinks and food, warm, dry clothing, and a safe space for guests to come for support and a chat. If required, a phone is available for those who need help to contact housing services. The Evening Drop-In will be until the 24th December, when we break for Christmas. (Alternative provision will then be available at LDHAS on Edward Street).
We are extremely grateful for all the generous donations of food, clothing and finances which we have received from the local community and from the Francis C Scott Trust, and the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund. The operation of the shelter depends on the kindness and generosity of volunteers who give their time to ensure that homeless people have access to warmth and shelter throughout the coldest months of the year.
We always need new volunteers, and if you feel that you could help for as little as an hour per week or per fortnight it would be much appreciated. Should Covid-19 restrictions change, our support will evolve as we seek to serve the needs of our community. If you would like more details about the Evening Drop-In, or you wish to support us in whatever way, please contact the Night Shelter Coordinators on 07547 717060, or email email@example.com.
