Night Shelter

From 1992-2022, Christ Church ran a Night Shelter for homeless people each winter, accommodating up to 25 people per night. Unfortunately we had to take the difficult decision to close the Shelter permanently, and we are grateful to all the volunteers, donors and churches who supported the Shelter through this time.

If you are homeless and in need of support, please contact Lancaster and District Homeless Action Service (LDHAS) on Edward Street, Monday-Friday 9am-1pm 01524 842008, or Lancaster City Council’s Housing Department 01524 582257, or, out of office hours: 01524 67099.

Scouting and Guiding

Our Hall is home to the very active 23rd Lancaster Scouts and the 1st Lancaster Guides, including Cubs, Beavers, Brownies, and Rainbows. Please contact the groups directly for more info.

Christ Church Choir

Our choir sings at the 10.30 service about once a month, plus other special occasions, and practises in church on Thursdays at 7.15pm for an hour. New members always welcome; if you’re not sure, come along and give it a try for a few weeks! Contact Clive Shaw (see Contact us) for more info.

Study Group

Meets on term-time Sundays after the 10.30 service for an hour. Led by Pat and Jacqueline, usually there is gentle discussion of the day’s Scripture readings, and from time to time we run a course on a specific theme. Everyone welcome.

Eco Church Group

The Eco Church Group meets monthly to discuss new research and news on climate issues, and to discuss ways the Christ Church community can improve its carbon footprint – see the Newsletter for details.

Craft Group

Meets in the Hall on the second Tuesday of each month at 1130. Bring your own craft project, or join in some of the shared projects on the go. All areas and abilities welcome!

In the Community

We are very proud of the close links that we enjoy with Christ Church Primary School. Every Wednesday, our Vicar, Rev. Carol, comes into school to lead Worship, and pupils regularly attend Christ Church as a school to enjoy special services. The school is supported by members of the wider congregation in various ways including as governors, and we are delighted that our school and church are able to work together within the local community.

We also have longstanding links with Lancaster Royal Grammar School. Boys use the building for assembly throughout the week, and we look forward to concerts and other special events in church throughout the year. Boarders are welcome at any of our services, and our Vicar supports the school as an Independent Listener.

Every week, we collect items of food for the Olive Branch food bank in Lancaster, and can refer individuals for support if needed.

We support the work of Lancaster and District Homeless Action Service, and also Refugee Advocacy, Information and Support (RAIS) and Lancaster City of Sanctuary. Our Eco-Group is supporting Money For Madagascar this year, a charity tackling climate change on the island.
