5. Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to carry the cross

We
adore you, O Christ, and we bless you,
because by your holy cross you have redeemed the
world.
Luke 23:26
As they led him away, they seized a man, Simon of
Cyrene, who was coming from the country, and they laid the cross on him, and
made him carry it behind Jesus.
Reflection
It felt like
she had reached the end of the road. She had lost everything, and she was
terrified of what might happen to her children. Then out of nowhere came
someone who wanted to help, who found her a lawyer, someone to speak for her.
She has hope; she no longer feels alone.
Prayer
Lord, you know what it is to carry a heavy burden.
May we, whenever we can,
lighten the burdens of our brothers and sisters.
Give us awareness of the needs of others;
teach us to listen carefully,
so that we may truly help.
Amen.
