2. Jesus accepts the cross
adore you, O Christ, and we bless you,
because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.
He carried his sorrow for his lost family, his destroyed village. He carried it across Europe, border after border. He carried it all through the dreadful night in the freezer lorry, running on the spot to stay alive. He carries it now and always, here in his new life.
Lord, it is from love for the world
that you take up the cross.
When I am offered my cross,
give me the courage to bear it.
Walk with me,
help me to be brave,
to speak out for justice,
to change our world.
